Golden Hour Monday

Santa Anita / Golden Gate Analysis 01/02/23

Leg 1 | Santa Anita | Race 9Dirt | 8 Furlongs | $67k Maiden Special 3YOs

#8 Riverside Runner is figuring out this mile distance more and more with dirt spread progression going +8 to +4 to +0.6. Figures to trigger a REV pattern in this race if trajectory continues.

#4 Harlocap Boasts the fastest Last 4F Figure of field out of the sprint debut. Comes down to energy distribution now. If he likes the more relaxed splits of a two-turn race, there’s plenty of upside for increased late pace.

#6 Navy Man Nicely compressed even with some speed at 77.4 / 71.5 in second start. Was eating up ground quick on winner in last while holding sway a next out winner who initially had some momentum on him.

Leg 2 | Golden Gate | Race 8Tapeta | 8.5 Furlongs | $20k Claiming Older

#2 Shot Of A Lifetime Winner at this level two back, repeating the 65.8 / 72.6 of that spin puts this one in prominent position to be top threat both early and late.

#7 Holy Ghost Hasn’t been much recently as they’ve experimented with dirt and turf in SoCal and tried going 12 panels in last. Now, gets circled back closer to distance and surface he was winning on this last summer with a top back ability of 62.6 / 71.2 which could win here if found.

#5 Table For Ten Typically a turfer, he offers the same closer-style running as the ML favorite but with a much better price attached. Last try on this track 61.3 / 69.9.

#6 Ottawa Fire (IRE) Looks too vulnerable for me to use if really only offering favoritism here off a 2/1 ML. Flew home but off 55.1 / 69.6, leaves self a lot to do on the slight bump in price. Despite the good stretch run, not sure it’s a positive the new barn suddenly had this one 15 lengths off the pace.

Leg 3 | Santa Anita | Race 10Turf | 8 Furlongs | $72k Allowance Older

#1 Tio Magico Comes off a field-best 71.6 / 81.3 while triggering a PLOW in first time going two turns on grass in a while. There are other strong stretch runners in here but this one could figure to get a better jump holding stronger 4F and 6F Figures than those rivals while saving ground inside, an upgrade from circling widest of them all like he was in last. Clocker reports indicate he impressively ran down Grade I winner Masteroffoxhounds in morning work. Could be the runner to build this Pick 4 around.

#3 Beef Winslow Showed improvement to 73.0 / 75.7 with some speed off a TDL during summer. The TDL pattern is much tougher to earn than the PLOW and signals runners that possess the tools to imminently have success on the green. Runner comes off a REV/NPT combo on the main track, possibly a launching pad for that success here today back to grass.

Leg 4 | Golden Gate | Race 9Tapeta | 8 Furlongs | $20k Claiming Older

#10 Arma d’Oro Been sprinting with last 3 pretty tight not more than 3 points from zero as far as dirt spread. That compression should translate well to more distance here as he gets to see softer splits than typical. Just has to be okay with the distance itself here.

#2 Rocktillyoudrop Looks to be the late pace of this group off a 59.9 / 68.5 featuring widest dirt spread and best final figure of field’s last two-turn tapeta tries.

#5 Chief JacksonWas compressed sprinting stretching out in last similar to what #10 will be attempting today and put up a solid enough 66.5 / 67.0. Looking to steal again here off a conditioning work tab and offer some odds.

#6 Enjoy It Straight There’s a handful of others in here looking to be forward like this one but he offers less question marks about making the distance off a respectable 66.9 / 66.5.

#7 Anitanewmercedes Plenty drawn in today that can match the 7-year old’s early speed which takes away her typical advantage. Appears vulnerable at an underlay if really going off at 2/1 ML.
