Coast-2-Coast Pick 5 Analysis

Picks & Analysis for 2/25/24

Leg 1 | Gulfstream | Race 9 | Turf | 8.5 Furlongs | Post 4:06 ET

Must Use:
#3 Just For Luck
Remained a maiden for a good stint but those trying times also featured lots of foundational moves triggering COMP, REV, and NPT conditioning. Suddenly perked up 2-back with the 61h/74 synthetic win and could build upon last out’s 75/77h turf try today.
#5 Harrington
Looks to peak off a PLOW after boasting some big back figures to draw back on including a 74/79h local spin. 15/1 ML would be surprising to get but still looks like a “must use” at half those odds.
#7 Ordinary
Must show up off a long break but does sport a nice work tab on the Palm Meadows grass while drawing Paco over for season unveiling. Past local form of 65h/74h should feature some improvement just due to age development today.
#10 Palace View (IRE)
Tough to ever leave out runner coming off best running line of the field with a 74h/81h and 2-back form of 77/77h which would put him in a race-controlling spot today if ran back to.

Consider:
#1 Hendrickson
After a long break, has increased turf spread with each of current campaign’s starts and off a PLOW, could surprise on the ship to new surroundings. Prefer double-digit odds hold.
#8 Mr Brizel
If he’s really going to offer long bomb odds like the 30/1 ML suggests, well worth inclusion here as he could be waking up. His local turf try of 73/73 could see him with prominent position with a chance to get a jump on many of these after showing improved from across synthetic when breaking his maiden in last.
#2 Mister Abarrio
Consistent local form off 63h/75 and 67/77h that do fit well in here but as a popular claim has already had his chances with other top barns and failed as of late so wondering if he’ll be a bit underlaid in this competitive field.

Leg 2 | Santa Anita | Race 3 | Turf | 6.5 Furlongs | Post 4:30 ET

Must Use:
#7 Player B
Plenty enough speed contention signed on in here to set up for this one in stretch after an easy 64h/72 win featuring a +7 turf spread. Tempting to take our stand in the sequence here with a single.

Consider:
#5 I’m A Lucky Man
Threatens to upset the stance of hoping for a pace meltdown as the possible speed of the speed who could sling-shot this turn and steal the race.

Leg 3 | Gulfstream | Race 10 | All-Weather | 8.5 Furlongs | Post 4:36 ET

Must Use:
#3 Palace Zip
Lone debut runners are tough to ever leave out at this level as the probability they fit above the rest of these who have already failed is high.
#6 Miss Tarisansol
Appeared to bounce off a good 65/69 debut but was dealing with a lot of changes in that second outing. Look for her to reel back to that debut form and be a real threat in the lane against this weaker field.
#8 Mi Amore
Nice angle here of speed stretching back out. After taking on the conditioning of prompting 90 and 84 2F Figures in sprints, could be handled more relaxed today and go on with it over the distance.

Leg 4 | Santa Anita | Race 5 | Turf | 6 Furlongs | Post 5:30 ET

Must Use:
#6 Notime For Squalls
She inched clear of #2 Matina late in that speedy bullet work preceding today’s unveiling.
#7 Not A Sinner (GB)
She was suddenly tight in turf spread last race at -0.5 compared to a couple -10’s earlier on. If an honest pace scenario unravels and she runs back this “compression,” look for her to be the top threat in the lane.
#9 Ketonia (FR)
Good compression of +1 and +2 in both turf starts and another that will be a threat in the lane as long as the race flow is honest and she can work a better trip than she’s been giving herself so far.

Consider:
#4 Ms Bo J
Good speed in dirt tires prompting 80+ 2F Figures and 75+ 4F Figures. While the opposite isn’t true, speed on dirt does often translate well to speed on turf, and the more forgiving surface gives these types a good chance to go on with it. Only knock is she has the look of one that could draw a good deal of support so she may be worth beating here as the favorite with plenty of other good options. If you think the public will go elsewhere though, and this one is 3/1+, elevate her to “must use” status.
#8 Greer My Dear
Forwardly spent going a mile on dirt, those NPTs with “off” Finals could actually be a nice set-up for today’s “shock” of jumping onto less stressful turf. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if this one suddenly woke up with the surface switch and tried to steal this race at a price.
#2 Matina
The dam had turf speed and the lone half-sibling has turf speed so why not this one. Should at least muddle the pace here and could steal the race. However, works suggest she might need some work on sustaining late run.

Leg 5 | Santa Anita | Race 7 | Turf | 6 Furlongs | Post 6:30 ET

Must Use:
#1 Spiritual Advisor
Dirt try 2 weeks removed was much tighter than usual and combo’d to a REV triggered before that. This form projects to translate to turf very well today. I’ll be considering a Win Bet here if I’m getting 6/1+.
#4 Geezer
Compressed 74/75 after the conditioning of REV/NPT on dirt. Should be fit to run to contention today.
#5 Andy Can U Hear Me
Also sports a tight 76/76 that portrays good fitness for today’s configuration.
